Complex Dashboard Designs for a Mission-Driven Data Software Company

Led the design and UX strategy for intricate, data-rich dashboards used by a civic technology company focused on improving outcomes for children. The platform supports state governments, school districts, and non-profit partners by transforming fragmented data into actionable insights.

These dashboards handle large-scale datasets—ranging from early childhood education and health records to family support services—presenting them in a cohesive and user-friendly interface that enables frontline workers, policymakers, and analysts to make informed, timely decisions.

The Child Universal Success Platform (CUSP), serves as an Early Childhood Integrated Data System (ECIDS) that consolidates and analyzes data from various sources. This integration provides state governments, nonprofits, and other partners with comprehensive insights to enhance decision-making and improve outcomes for children and families.

Design challenges included:

  • Translating highly technical datasets into intuitive visualizations that could be understood by non-technical users.

  • Creating layered data views that accommodate both high-level trends and granular, case-by-case information.

  • Balancing accessibility, compliance, and data privacy requirements within the UI/UX framework.

  • Designing for flexibility across multiple states, each with distinct data schemas and reporting needs.

The results show a dynamic, scalable design system that helped users identify gaps in care, track intervention outcomes, and ultimately improve the lives of children and families across the country.
